SENATE BILL NO. 252
BY SENATORS DARDENNE, EWING, HAINKEL AND BARHAM AND
REPRESENTATIVES DEWITT, DOWNER AND MCMAINS

STUDENTS. Requires every approved private school, nonapproved private school, and
publicly funded adult education program, to provide written notice within 10
days of the enrollment of a student in grades K-12 who was enrolled in a
public school to the public school where the student last attended. Specifies,
in each case, the notice shall be a written notice which contains the student's
name, date of birth, gender and race. Requires every public school which
receives a notice to notify appropriate school board entities.

BY REPRESENTATIVE FRUGE  (also SENATOR SCHEDLER and REPRESENTATIVE THOMPSON and REPRESENTATIVE PRATT)
STUDENT/SCH ATTENDANCE: Requires, with certain exceptions, persons
having control of a child to send such child to school from the child's
7th birthday until his 18th birthday. Changes age for withdrawal from 16 to 17.

1. Reinstates present law provisions regarding the mandatory school age. (7 -17)
2. Permits a student to withdraw from school with parental consent only 
when the student reaches the age of 17.

from using students' social security numbers for identification purposes

So Naturally we have SB 1004: Summary: Encourages a student entering a school 
system for the first time to furnish his social security number to the school

Proposed law, relative to the Tuition Opportunity Program for Students (TOPS), 
makes certain students graduating from Louisiana nonpublic high schools that are 
not approved by the State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) 
eligible for Opportunity, Performance, Honors, and TOPS-Tech awards.
